Whitney Wolfe – Article Recap

Whitney Wolfe Herd’s Bumble

Whitney Wolfe Herd’s wedding was full of style and happiness. The wedding which was held in Italy, Positano, was a reflection of Whitney’s style and careful attention to detail. Her relationship with Michael Herd started a few years ago while they both were on Christmas vacation in Aspen. Though Whitney Wolfe is the founder of a dating site, bumble, the couple did not meet on the app. They met on a skiing range. Whitney says that Michael’s firs words to her were a phony admission that he did not know how to sky. As it turns out, he is a pro on the snow; he just wanted to talk to her.Two years down the line, he proposed to her and two more years, they got married in a royal wedding in Italy. Micheal is a business man dealing in oil and gas while Whitney is the CEO and Founder of Bumble, a dating app that has been causing quite the buzz in the dating sector.

Bumble has been the talk of users in the online dating arena because of its unique feature that allows girls to make the first move. This has made it quite easy for women to find suitable partners to date. On other dating sites the users, both men and women, swipe right to say yes and left to say no. If there is a match, both users are notified. However, though not written anywhere as a golden rule, it is the men who initiate the conversation. If a woman does, she is dismissed as desperate. This translates to women just sitting and waiting for someone to decide whether they are date worthy or not. This has opened women up to a lot of stereotyping that is – simply put – unfair. On Bumble, it is a rule; once a match has been made, it is the woman to initiate the conversation.

This eliminates the stereotyping that comes with who made the first move. This feature has made Bumble quite popular among the ladies. What surprised many is that of the over 500,000 users the app has attracted, the ratio of men to women is almost 50:50. This is usually not the case with most dating sites. Users o bumble also praise it for attracting the ‘right’ kind of people. Since it is the woman who has the power to initiate a conversation, it gives her plenty of time to define the nature of the relationship. As a result, most men who sign up with the app are men looking to have a serious relationship, not a one-time undefined fling. With this new dating app, Whitney Wolfe has been able to empower women not just by giving the power in the dating field, but by saving them from unnecessary stereotyping.
